Schneider Electric to start building transformer plant in Samara in May


SAMARA. April 6 (Interfax) - Schneider Electric plans to begin building a new factory to manufacture transformers in Samara in May, the French company told Interfax.

Schneider Electric had previously said it planned to build the factory in 2014.

"The postponement of the start of construction is due to the difficult process of obtaining permit documentation. Now all necessary permits have been received. All the main parameters of the project remain the same. The foundation stone of the new building will be laid on May 18," a company spokesman said.

He said Schneider Electric affirms all previously stated plans for investment in Russia.

"In 2015 we're planning three major projects in the area of localization of equipment production and servicing: the start of construction on the new factory in Samara, the opening of the modern service center and Moscow technologies training center, and the expansion of production facilities at the Schneider Electric Ural plant in Yekaterinburg," the spokesman said.

The new Samara plant is supposed to be located next to another Schneider factory, Russky Transformator. The amount of planned investment has not been disclosed, but it was said that about 200 million rubles was needed just to buy the land. The factory is expected to create about 600 jobs once it opens.

Schneider Electric is one of the leading manufacturers of electrical equipment in the world, with 207 factories, as well as research centers in 25 countries.
