Acacia Research Corporation, through its subsidiaries, acquires, develops, licenses and enforces patented technologies. The Company’s operating subsidiaries generate license fee revenues and related cash flows from the granting of licenses for the use of patented technologies that its operating subsidiaries own or control. Its operating subsidiaries assist patent owners with the prosecution and development of their patent portfolios, the protection of their patented inventions from unauthorized use, the generation of licensing revenue from users of their patented technologies and, if necessary, with the enforcement against unauthorized users of their patented technologies.The Company’s subsidiaries own or control the rights to over 140 patent portfolios, which include United States patents and certain foreign counterparts, covering technologies used in a variety of industries.
