San Diego Gas & Electric Company (SDG&E) sells, distributes and transports natural gas. The Company’s service area covers 4,100 square miles. At December 31, 2009, SDG&E had 1.4 million customer meters. It consisted of 1,225,500 residential customer meters, 146,700 commercial meters, 500 industrial meters, 2000 street and highway lighting meters, and 4,500 direct access meters. SDG&E buys natural gas under short-term contracts for its Palomar and Miramar generating facilities and for the Cabrillo Power I, LLC and Otay Mesa Energy Center LLC tolling contracts. SDG&E has a 20% ownership interest in San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station (SONGS), which is located south of San Clemente, California. SONGS consists of two operating nuclear generating units.
