EGI Financial Holdings Inc. (EGI) operates in the property and casualty (P&C) insurance industry in Canada and in the United States, primarily focusing on non-standard automobile insurance and other specialty general insurance products. EGI operates through two strategic business units (SBUs) in Canada, the Personal Lines division and the Niche Products division. The Personal Lines division focuses on the underwriting of non-standard automobile insurance and motorcycle business, and also into other specialty lines of business. Through its Niche Products division, EGI designs and underwrites specialized non-auto insurance programs, such as higher property, primary and excess liability, legal expense and accident and health insurance for a variety of businesses and consumers and extended warranty coverage for homes and consumer products. On March 1, 2010, EGI's subsidiary, Echelon Insurance Company of America (EICA) acquired American Colonial Insurance Company, Inc.
